Why do we charge an initial consultation fee? This question is important, especially considering the growing trend of lawyers advertising “free initial consultations.” In our experience, these “free initial consultations” usually amount to no more than a “sign up and get out” marketing tactic, rather than a true counseling session. We believe that our consultation fee is fair. The $100 fee is approximately 1/3 of our usual hourly billing rate. For the $100 fee, an attorney will sit with you, listen to you, educate you, and offer a true and full legal counseling session. Even if you do not retain us, you should come away from the initial consultation with a better understanding of your legal issues, rights, and options.
