Rod believes that community service is important. He has served on the 28th Judicial Bar’s Pro Bono section, where he is a Co-Chair of the consumer protection section. Rod also serves on the Board of Directors for OnTrack (formerly Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Western North Carolina). OnTrack is a non-profit, United Way agency that offers many community programs to assist debtors in crisis and to educate the public about using and managing debt wisely.  Rod also believes in assisting clients who cannot afford legal services. He serves as a bankruptcy referral attorney for both Pisgah Legal Services and Legal Aid of North Carolina, Sylva.  Based on his active pro bono work, he has been a “featured attorney” at ProBono.net.

Rod has also served as both a volunteer mediator and board member at The Mediation Center, a nonprofit organization devoted to “win-win” conflict resolution. He is a North Carolina Superior Court Certified Mediator.
